You all wanted it, and now it's arrived. This is my take on setting up blueprints. I'll take you from slicing the images up that you can get here just go into blueprints on the left, and you'll see a page full of decisions. Anyway this tutorial will be on setting up car blueprints. So without further ado, lets get started. DL Audi Allroad Print

First thing is first, after of course you've downloaded your blueprints open up Photoshop, or any other various Paint program that has the ability to crop images. Then proceed to opening your saved blueprint. What you'll have is something similar to this


The next thing to do is start cutting up the image. We'll start with the top left and work our way down. First off you want to use an area selection tool such as the selection marquee at the top left of the photoshop tools. You'll want to select an area that has the top, sides, and bottom touching the car on all sides but without the wheels such as shown below in red.


Do the same for the back view of the car, then proceed to the Side View, and the Top View as well. Of course with the top view on this particular, and most other, blueprints you will have to rotate the canvas 90° CCW. Remembering to keep the selection touching the car on all sides. Here is a view of all mine cut out.


After you've saved them all as something like audi_top, audi_side, etc. have a go into Lightwave Modeler. Once inside hit your d key (key case sensitive.) It will open another small window, once open on the tabs at the top click backdrop to insert your images. Below shows the Backdrop Tab.


Okay in the TL (Top Left Viewport) tab you will see an image drop down box. Click this than proceed to load the top view of your blueprint like so. Of course you don't need to exit the window after opening the print, nor do you want to. Usually I like to turn on pixel blending and change the Image Resolution to 1024, but 512 will suffice quite nicely. Also Do not Resize the image.


With the backdrop tab still open click the BL (Bottom Left Viewport) and load your Front image into this following the previous steps. After that proceed to the BR (Bottom Right Viewport) to load in the Side image. Here are all my images loaded in.


Once this is complete we want to zoom into the Top View using what appears to be a small piece of paper in the blue box next to the Zoom Magnify Glass and then Create a Box that touches each side of the car like shown below.


Once this is complete go back to the Four Viewports by clicking the same button as to get to the single viewport. You'll notice once into the four ports that the side and front images are far too large. So go ahead and enter your Backdrop tab after hitting the d key. We'll want to size down the front image (BL) to match the size of the box by using the Size section as shown below.


After doing this you can exit the backdrop window, and we'll want to bring the box up and down to enclose the size of the Front (BL) image as well. As shown Below.


Now we'll want to zoom out as to see the entire BOX in the Side (BR) view. Do this then resize the Side image in the (BR) area of the Backdrop tab. You'll end up with something like this.


So there you have it. The best way I've found to setup blueprints. I've done it this way on all of my car models.
